Fitzgerald’s recap: Iron Man + Tons of friends

On May 1st we played Fitzgerald’s in Houston for the first time. I personally have a history at Fitzgerald’s because it was the club my band in high school played at the most often. It’s been around forever and they cater to all ages, so it was our home back when I couldn’t even dream of getting into a 21+ club. It was definitely interesting jumping back on the same stage I had played on as a senior in high school, but also much different now that I have so much more experience playing in public. Jordan also has a history at Fitz’s, as his band in college played there.

I thought the show went very well over all. As part of our “Living Vicariously Through a Rockstar” segment, Jordan dressed as Iron Man for the show. It was awesome– Hooch and I started the beginning of the Black Sabbath song “Iron Man” and from the second story of the club Jordan jumped down in full-on Iron Man garb! It was fucking hilarious. Everyone was super pumped for the show after that (video coming soon, or check out the beginning of Jordan’s bio). We also debuted a new song that we have been working on for a while called “Let it Go”. Its a raucous funky song that has all of us singing and soloing, so look out for that one! Overall a great weekend in Houston, playing for friends and fans and just having an awesome time rockin’ out Achachay! Style.

Live on the radio- KPFT 90.1 -Saturday at 5:30P

That’s right, we’ll be doing our first ever live on-air radio performance tomorrow, Saturday January 30th on KPFT Radio for Peace. That’s in Houston, TX.  Specifically, it’s the “Soundcheck” program during Deadbeat with Sandy Weinman. I’m super excited.

- Starts at 5:30 PM

- Ends at 5:57 PM

- We’ll be doing a few songs, mixed in with a few interview questions

- You can stream online HERE

If you’re in the area, check it out. If not, stream it. It should be pretty cool. KPFT is an awesome radio station, and one of the three stations I listen to in Houston (The others being KTRU 91.7 (Rice Radio, which also features our music) and KTSU 90.9). KPFT always has really interesting programs, unique music, and syndicates awesome programs like Democracy Now! It’s quite an honor to be playing on it. I’ll post a link to the recording if we get it and you miss it.

The story of the blowout, and the ensuing press frenzy

OK frenzy was a bit of an overstatement but seriously this a great article, and it tells the story as well as I could (because I do, in the article).

From twitter:
“Achachay: an Austin band’s big blowout and how they made it to the gig on time”
http://tinyurl.com/cq8ybc via @ShareThis

EXCERPT: “The band hears a huge explosion and the bus begins to shake. Jordan pulls over to inspect the damage. “We are in the middle of nowhere,” Jordan explains. “There’s nothing but trees and road as far as the eye can see. The back right tire is thrashed. I mean this is not just a flat, it’s a blowout. A ‘going out of business’ style blowout.”

Also check out this SWEET photo from the show, by David Sadof, whose page is here

In other news, playing at Freddie’s was awesome. I had their fish tacos for the first time and was quite happy. Plus my next door neighbors and their kids came which made my day!
