austin band with a cause
This Saturday we’re playing in Gorilla Suits at the Austin Gorilla Run. We couldn’t possibly be more excited!
The race starts at 9AM at City Hall. We kick off the after party at 10AM at Fado, and play until the awards ceremony. Then we’ll start again and keep the energy high until the party officially ends at 2PM.
There are many, many, many amazing things about this race. One of them is that we’re shooting our first ever music video at it! We’re going to take advantage of the fact that about 700 people will be wearing gorilla suits and jamming out to our music. It’s a cool thing, and it aligns us with our mission and our values: we love to provide people with new ways of thinking and living in the world, we love to help people have fun, and we love to do it all while doing good in the world (proceeds benefit the Mountain Gorilla Conservation Fund, a badass organization). On top of that, the whole idea to bring the event to Austin was Jordan’s idea, and he made it happen.
That’s right. Jordan heard about the run in Denver over a year and a half ago and has been working to make it happen ever since. Achachay! has always been an integral part of the race; both as an explicit piece of the day’s events and a sponsor, and behind the scenes coordinating it with a few other dedicated team members. We’re always looking for ways to make our concerts more than just another show. This is certainly going to be a concert experience unlike any other. How often is the audience all covered in fur?
A few people have been asking if the show is open to the public. Yes, you can come even if you’re not running in the race. Just show up to Fado at 10AM. Let me encourage everyone to sign up – it’s not too late – and it will make the whole thing that much more enjoyable. Plus, you’ll be able to keep your suit and wear it anytime. It just might become part of the Achachay! tradition to play gorilla shows, and you won’t want to have to wait a whole year to be part of the action!
It’s going to be awesome. Look forward to more info, and the video, in the future.
