Gorilla Run packed and awesome

Gorilla Run after-party

The Gorilla Run was a huge success. Over 1000 people dressed up in gorilla suits and raised over $50,000 for the second year in a row last Saturday. I’m so proud of everyone who helped make this happen. I love all the participants, fans, and the spirit of Austin. I’m so happy to call this city home.

Our show was super fun. Playing to a crowd of a thousand people dressed in gorilla suits is an unforgettable experience. Hopefully we’ll get some pictures posted soon. In the meantime you can check out photos of the gorilla run at the official site. I never would have predicted this, but what with the Gorilla Run and Voodoo Fest, some of our biggest and most energetic shows recently have started in the early morning – at 10AM!

Big props to Hooch, as we got many compliments on the sound. He’s run festival sized sound before (Applejam’s Sunday jam last year, for example), but this year was a whole different beast.

It will happen again in 2013. We’ll see you there!

freaking awesome Gorilla Run

The gorilla run show was freaking awesome.

Hundreds of gorilla gathered at Fado after a crazy run for three hours of funk fun from Achachay! We never took the suits off (although Hooch and I, having to sing, didn’t last long with the masks).

It’s hard to explain the joy of playing in a gorilla suit, for a lively crowd of dancing gorilla and bananas. It was truly a dream come true. I envisioned that three hour long moment for over year, and it exceeded all of my expectations. The diverse crowd ran the gamut from babies (in banana and monkey costumes) to a 76 year old runner, making the occasion even sweeter. The atmosphere dripped of joyous celebrations. What else can one do after running three miles in a gorilla

suit with seven hundred others doing the same? Time flew by. Oh yeah, and somehow, I ended up soloing on the roof. Check out the video here.

The Music Video:

The whole crowd supported us by going bananas during the first set for the cameras. We will release the forthcoming music video featuring footage from this run and performance in the next few months. Remi is editing and directing, so it should be creative and cool. Stay tuned for information on how to get a sneak preview of what is to come.

Overall:

This show is a good representation of all that we stand for. Originality, creativity, good fun, all the while acknowledging troubles and working towards ameliorating them- making a difference in the world in a positive way. We can’t wait to do it again next year!
